Rigorous insight, culturally grounded clarity
The Approach
Nestu’et (pronounced “ness-doo-et”) is a Mi’kmaw word meaning “become wiser” or “become knowledgeable.”
Nestu’et Law Inc. was founded by Josie McKinney, an accomplished Mi’kmaw and Wolastoqiyik lawyer and leader with more than 16 years of criminal litigation experience and nearly two decades advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation, and accessibility (EDIRA) within workplaces and public institutions. The firm is grounded in the concept of etuaptmumk, or “two-eyed seeing” - a term developed by Elder Albert Marshall of Eskasoni First Nation to describe bringing together the strengths of both Indigenous and Western knowledge systems to guide work in a good way.
Focused on workplace investigations and organizational reviews/assessments, Nestu’et Law Inc. offers the rigour, neutrality, and evidence-based analysis of a seasoned criminal litigator, paired with deep expertise in EDIRA and Indigenous ways of knowing. The firm works in partnership with teams and organizations to strengthen understanding, illuminate root causes, and support informed and culturally grounded decision-making.
